Introduction to Anti-Reflective Coatings

Anti-reflective coatings (also called AR coating or non-glare coating) enhance the performance and appearance of your eyeglass lenses. This is true whether you wear single vision, bifocal or progressive lenses.

An AR coating is applied to the lens surfaces to reduce the amount of light reflected off the surface. AR coatings are designed to maximize the amount of light that enters the lens, while minimizing the light lost to reflection. These coatings improve the efficiency of your lenses, enhance contrast, reduces scattered light that can interfere with their optical performance, and decrease glare, especially at night.

With reflections eliminated, lenses with AR coating provide better vision for night driving and more comfortable vision for reading and computer use.

Goodrich Optical highly recommends AR coatings for all eyewear. Especially polycarbonate or thinner, high-index lenses. With an AR coating, your lenses virtually disappear. People will see your eyes, and not be distracted by the reflections from your lenses.
